A Garden to Share
I always used to be around gardens but never had a place to grow one of my own till now. This was the time when I was a kid and visited my grandparents in Indiana, where their entire yard was a vegetable garden. Whenever I thought, it seems that my grandfather was the original urban homesteader.
Before: The Perfect Palette
That’s when we enrolled in Birch Community Services abbreviated BCS, a local non-government organization (NGO) that used to provide food and services to more than 700 families against nominal charges and at least two hours of volunteer work a month. The group supervised two community gardens, where members plant, mulch, weed and harvest the production which was distributed among them.
This plot area was comprised of almost 5000 square feet and much larger than most of the yards in this community, but the yard was in rough shape. The turf covering the front yard was dying; backyard was full of bamboos &, weeds and a damaged plum tree. I planned to grow a traditional lawn in front yard and vegetables in the backyard.
Planting a New Plan
This was the time when we recently shifted in, BCS lost one of its gardens, which would certainly have meant less generate for the households.
