Networks You Require for Career Building


What distinguishes a person in an organization is not luck, it is simply the ability to develop working and sustainable relationship with key people in the organization. Such fellows tend to be very successful and exceptional in the organization. Organizations are simply social structures and therefore they are built by people and with people.

Operational networks are designed to execute tasks with much efficiency. Such networks are built internally in an organization and the current demands determine the possible contacts. You need to connect with your co-workers in other departments to build this type of network. Note the people you depend on for success in various departments. When the foundation of this relationship is strongly laid, you would have created a dependable network that will make your way a smooth sail for accomplishing your projects.

 

Personal

Personal networks are crucial in improving your professional and personal development and also for referral purposes. Unlike operational network, this type of network is built externally to your organization. Both current and future interests determine the orientation of the contacts here. The members of this network should be chosen by you. The network is broad and can link you to prospective referrals.

It is important not to hide under the shadow of your company when you are employed to be a manager. You have to get yourself involved in charitable organizations, professional associations and various other forums and platforms to make your network wider. The reason for this is more than showing up but it is an opportunity to get involved in various activities.

Networking is not all about whom you know but it is all about the people who know you and who those people know. To get people to know you, you simply have to become visible in activities. Professional association events are simply tasked with the responsibility of assisting at the registration table where you get in touch with people coming in and also they get in touch with you.

Strategic

Strategic network is important in ascertaining challenges and priorities possible in the future and also establishing robust support for them. Such networks are both internal and external and also they are targeted at the future. The members involved in this network are not usually clear at the onset. However, the major contacts are determined by their relationships with the organizational environment and strategy. The network involved here creates link within and without, it is a leveraging network.

 

Leaders are different from managers. You can make yourself a leader by identifying the key people in your organization at different levels or hierarchies. People at higher hierarchies usually have more strategic visions. You should choose mentors at the higher level this will help you to know what you need to climb to the higher pedestal. Aside from teaching you, great mentors ensure that you are assigned to right project and bring you before the right people.

One of the most important tips to building a sustainable relationship is giving before receiving. People will see you as someone worthy of their relationship if you and your team are out to make their jobs easier for them. Giving is much like a boomerang; it often comes back to the person who released it.
