The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene bestows its highest honor, the Bailey K. Ashford Medal, upon the recipient most deserving of it. In recognition of Dr.

Subash Babu’s efforts as the scientific director of the International Center for Excellence in Research India Program, this honor was bestowed upon him and presented to him at the National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis in Chennai, India.

What is the name of the award Dr. Subash Babu won?

According to the committee that made the decision to choose him, he was instrumental in our education regarding tuberculosis, helminth infections, and the COVID-19 virus.

According to a press release from the annual meeting of the ASTMH, which took place on October 30, 2022, in Seattle, Washington, United States of America, Dr. Subash was awarded the Bailey K. Ashford Medal in recognition of his work in the field.

The medal is presented on an annual basis to a researcher or researchers who are in the middle of their careers and have made significant contributions to the field of tropical medicine.

Dr. Subash Babu received his MBBS from the Government Kilpauk Medical College and his PhD in immunology from the University of Connecticut.

Both institutions are located in India. After he finished his postdoctoral fellowship at the NIH, he moved to India and set up the ICER in 2006 at the ICMR-NIRT building in Chennai.

In 1995, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene elevated Subash to the position of fellow within its organization. This was a recognition of his efforts in the field of tropical medicine, and it was well-deserved (FASTMH).

He is the first person of Indian descent to win both the Bailey K. Ashford Medal and the FASTMH Prize. Neither award is given out very often. The fact that you made the effort to pay attention to me fills me with joy and gratitude.

This information was provided by Suresh Babu to TNIE, and he said, “Especially on behalf of my wonderful team and coworkers.”
