Field star Raven Saunders’ mother, Clarissa Saunders, has died, according to WTVD.
The news outlet reports that Saunders’ mother died in late August, days after her daughter won the silver medal in the 100–meter hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics.
Saunders, 27, announced her mother’s passing on Instagram Sunday, saying she was “by my side” when she won the medal.
“My mama was a great woman and will forever live through me,” she wrote.
Saunders, who grew up in Pennsylvania, has also said that she believes her mother’s support and love helped her win the medal.
She has not said when or where her mother died.
