Former NASCAR driver Eric McClure was found dead at his home in Indiana Sunday, exactly one year after he was involved in a horrific crash at Talladega that left him with symptoms of traumatic brain injury.
The accident happened last October, and McClure was placed in a medically induced coma for several weeks.
According to his family, he suffered from post–traumatic stress disorder, memory loss, and speech impairment. McClure was also arrested in March after he reportedly beat his wife in front of their children.
His family said he suffered from “personality changes” since the accident. Prior to the crash, McClure had been racing since 2001 and driven for teams including Roush Fenway Racing, Swan Racing, and Team McClure.
His family said in a statement that he “became a different person” after the accident and “suffered an aggressive and deadly form of brain cancer.”
