German Prosecutor: We Know What Happened to Madeleine McCann

A German prosecutor said theyve solved the nearly decadelong disappearance of Madeleine McCann, saying they now know what happened to the British toddler while on vacation in Portugal with her family.

Hans Christian Wolters, who has headed the investigation since 2016, said there is new evidence pointing to German businessman Christian Brückner, who was a suspect in the case when it was initially open.

Wolters said a review of Brückners accounts and phone records showed he was in the Portuguese resort at the time of Madeleines disappearance.

When a prosecutor says there is undeniable new evidence, then this is not a good sign for the accused, Wolters said.

He added that he intends to request that Brückner be extradited from Germany to Portugal to face trial.

I am far more confident today than when I started out, Wolters said. This is a developing story.
