A man who called Joe Biden and urged him to “Let’s go, Brandon” says his statement was just a joke, despite its connection to Brandon White, the man who killed Biden’s son in a car accident in 1972.
Jared Schmeck of Wisconsin told CNN he was referring to the name of the character Brandon in the 2001 film Let’s Go, and not the name of the late Biden son.
“I understand there is a vulgar meaning to ‘Let’s go, Brandon,’ but I’m not that simple minded, no matter how I feel about him,” he said.
The President’s office called the comments “disgusting and shameful.” Schmeck said he “can’t say it was a mistake because it wasn’t.”
He added that he was “angry” when he made the call and “just kind of lost it.”
