Nigerian man arrested in Israel for allegedly trying to send money to Islamic State released on humanitarian grounds

ikhye bola, a Nigerian man who was arrested and detained in Israel for allegedly trying to send money to a group associated with the Islamic State, was released from custody on Tuesday after a court determined he was there on a mission for the United Nations.

Israeli officials say that bola was arrested for allegedly trying to send funds to the Islamic State-affiliate Al Qaida in the Sinai Peninsula. The United Nations, however, has said that bola was there on a humanitarian mission.

Bola’s lawyer said that he was released “without any condition” and will be allowed to return to the United States on Friday. He was arrested in Israel in April and indicted on charges of support for a terrorist organization and attempting to transfer funds to a prohibited organization.
