Raven Saunders received the news that her mother had died on Tuesday morning, less than 36 hours after winning silver in shot put at the Olympic Games. Clarissa Saunders, Raven’s mom, died in Florida after watching her daughter get an Olympic medal. She was only in Orlando for a few days to watch before she went back to work in Tokyo.
Raven found out early Tuesday morning that her mother who watched and supported her through getting a silver medal at the Olympics had passed away.
Raven Saunders is a 5-foot-3, 135-pound shot putter and American high school student who was born in the Philippines. She was raised by her mother, Clarissa, whom she would often refer to as her “best friend.” Less than 36 hours after she won shot put silver and demonstrated on the Olympic podium, Raven Saunders found out that her mother Clarissa had died.
