SpaceX Begins Construction on New Building in Bastrop, Texas

On a rural property in Bastrop, Texas, SpaceX has begun construction on a new building that will be 500,000 square feet in size. This location is right across the street from where Elon Musk’s other business, The Boring Company, has set up shop.

The building in Bastrop has a total area of 521,000 square feet and is located on Walker Watson Road. It is roughly equivalent in size to five or six H-E-B stores. It is approximately 15 minutes away from the heart of the city and is located close to farms and cow pastures.

SpaceX to Build New Facility in Texas

According to the paperwork sent to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the building is called a “shell building,” and it is expected to cost 43 million dollars to build.

Even though Space Exploration Technologies Corp., better known as SpaceX, is listed as the operator in project site documents on the property, these documents only refer to the project as “Project Echo” in TDLR filings. These documents are located on the property.

The new building for SpaceX is directly across the street from where Musk’s tunnel-digging company, The Boring Company, is located. However, it is not entirely clear what The Boring Company intends to accomplish in the long run.

TBC has discussed doing business with a number of local governments, ranging from Austin to San Antonio. The company has the goal of one day constructing a tunnel highway that will connect these two major cities.

It appears that Musk visited the brand new SpaceX building, which is located in Bastrop, as recently as the previous month.

In a video that Elon Musk uploaded to Twitter on October 2, he and one of his children, along with a few other people, can be seen standing next to a warehouse as a tunnel-boring machine emerges from the ground below.

The name “Prufrock II coming out of the ground” that Musk gave to the video is a reference to the next generation of tunnel-boring machines that are manufactured by TBC.

Musk’s Boring Company Digs Tunnel to Tesla in Record Time

According to the company’s website, Prufrock II can dig a mile of tunnel every week, which is six times faster than the tunnel-boring machines that TBC is currently using.

You can see the Prufrock II tunneling from the Boring Co. location across the street to the SpaceX location, which is approximately 100 yards away, in the video that Musk posted.

Bastrop County is located to the west of its neighboring county, Travis County, which is home to Tesla.

According to the development order for the site, the SpaceX building ought to be finished by the end of the month of March.
